ArcByte, Inc. was founded in 1998 by Ian R. McFarland. His vision of a broad-based group of individuals has been the driving principle in the growth of ArcByte, inc. During his college studies, a professor once stated that the scientist they were reviewing was the ‘last of the all-purpose geniuses.’ After his contributions, the fields of study became specialized and advances in one discipline no longer were readily applied in another.

Mr. McFarland realized that the scope of modern technology has become so broad that no one individual could become a modern all-purpose genius. At the same time, information has become power. Mr. McFarland founded ArcByte, Inc. on the principle that a business with educational and experiential diversity could accomplish the greatness of the all-purpose geniuses.

Mr. Ian R. McFarland - CEO

Capabilities: Ian has more than 25 years experience in music and audio/visual effects engineering. He organized his first professional band at 14 and self-produced his first record at 20. Working "from the ground up" in the audio/visual industry, he has acquired a broad base of experience as a sound engineer, producer, and professional musician, composer, as well as graphics artist and animation specialist. He has composed and produced background music as well as graphics for instructional CD-ROMs. During the 1980's, he worked in the banking industry and served as AVP of Residential Lending Operations for Seasons Mortgage Corporation. His educational background includes Bachelor of Arts, Music Composition,  Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland, 1972; Columbia School of Broadcasting, Rockville, MD, 1973; Sound Recording Engineering, Recording Institute of America, 1978; Certified Mortgage Banker, Mortgage Bankers Association, 1987; Direct Endorsement Underwriter Certification, U.S. Department of HUD, 1988.

Ms. Lela L. McFarland - IT Manager

Capabilities:  Lela has served as a Systems Analyst in positions prior to founding and being the president of ArcByte, Inc.  She has developed a wide variety of computer applications for program administration, data retrieval, report production, and specialized research.  Her background includes Software Engineering for large financial firms, large private health-care corporations, as well as several years in the government and non-profit sector.  Education: Bachelor of Science, Mathematics, concentration in statistical design, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, 1994; Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, concentration in quantitative psychology, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, 1994, Associates of Science - Information Sciences, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, 1990.

Lu 

Capabilities:  Lu is an Oracle and Java Developer as well as a Computer Science Professor at Georgia Tech University.  Lu has developed Internet / Intranet solutions for a wide variety of organizations in the public and private sectors.  Additionally, Lu developed a revolutionary Java Interface tools, the C-Applicator (CAP) and the Java-Applicator (JCAP).  These tools provide revolutionary data management to web-based applications.  Education: B.S. Mathematics, Georgia Tech, 1959; Ph.D. Statistics and Computer Science, University of Georgia, 1971.

Vicki

Capabilities: Vicki is a programmer, analyst and QA Lead specialist formerly with Provia Software who specializes in UNIX/Informix, Paradox, DB, Java, PHP, Com and Dcom and Visual Basic, VB Scripting, HTML, DHTML, and SQL.  She also has vast experience in the areas of music composition, art and design.  Education: Bachelor of Science, Composition & Theory, Berklee College Of Music, Boston, MA 1978; Advanced Computer Studies, New York University, New York, NY, 1991.

Bruce

Capabilities:  Bruce is an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Software Engineer) specialist in Windows NT Server Enterprise Networks.  He has extensive experience in installation, setup and maintenance of networked servers including web servers, database servers, mail servers, proxy servers, file servers, application servers, RAID arrays, storage vault and backup servers, firewall and port configurations, data encryption, smart routers, switches and hubs, backbones, cable modems, ISDN, T1, and T3 connectivity.  Bruce is a professional in the setup and configuration of MS NT Server, Internet Information Server, SQL Server, Proxy Server, Exchange Server, Site Server, and most other Microsoft BackOffice Enterprise tools.  He holds a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic University.

Tom

Capabilities:  Tom holds a degree in Communications from the Maryland College of Art & Design, with a minor in Film.  He has more than 20 years experience in design and graphics, with a varied background in font design, logo/trademark creation, image setting, and layout.  He is proficient in a wide variety of graphics and animation packages. 

Damon

Capabilities:  Damon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  He is a specialist in HTML, DHTML, JAVA, Java Script, C, CGI/Perl and more.  His expertise is in hand coding, whereas, the other ArcByte developers were artists first.

Sherri

Capabilities:  Sherri is a Junior Systems Analyst with ArcByte, Inc.  She has served as Project Coordinator on many of ArcByte, Inc.'s large projects.  As Project Coordinator Sherri serves as the client advocate with the development team to ensure deadline and budget accountability.

Rose

Capabilities:  Rose holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration.  She is a specialist in MS Access, Seagate Crystal Reports, and business account procedures.  Rose is currently in a Baccalaureate Program to obtain a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science.
